Tata Communications Share Price in Focus; Announces India’s AI Super Highway Project

Tata Communications has announced a ₹4,350 crore investment to expand its fibre network in India, with plans to add around 10,000 km of long-haul fibre.
The announcement was made on October 26, 2026, and the investment is estimated at $400-450 million. The company plans to finance the project through operating cash flows.
It aims to add around 6 petabits per second (Pb/s) of network capacity between FY2030 and FY2036. Its existing capacity is 1.25 Pb/s, with utilisation at around 70%–80%.
First Phase to Cover Four Cities
The first phase covers the Mumbai-Pune-Hyderabad-Chennai corridor. Later phases are planned to extend the network to data centre locations along the eastern and western coasts, including Vizag, Bhubaneswar, Jamnagar, and GIFT City.
The proposed network is also expected to connect domestic data centre clusters with international cable landing stations, providing links to major AI hubs outside India.

Demand for AI Infrastructure
Tata Communications said the network is intended to serve hyperscalers, AI platforms, neo-cloud providers, enterprises and digital-native businesses. The expansion comes as demand for cloud services, AI applications, and data centre capacity increases.
The company also plans to expand its national long-distance and metro networks as part of its wider connectivity infrastructure.
Existing Global Network
Tata Communications operates more than 500,000 km of subsea optical fibre and over 200,000 km of terrestrial fibre across its global network.
In 2025, the company integrated TGN IA2 into its network. In June 2026, it announced plans for a new subsea cable system between Mumbai and Singapore.
