Tata Signs Defence Agreement with Javelin Joint Venture for Anti-Tank Missiles Production

Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Javelin Joint Venture, a collaboration between Lockheed Martin and Raytheon, to co-produce the Javelin anti-tank missile system in India.  

Announced on August 30, 2026, this agreement positions TASL as the primary partner for local assembly and integration of the Javelin All Up Round (AUR), marking a significant step in India-US defence cooperation. 

Local Assembly and Integration in India 

Under the agreement, TASL and Javelin Joint Venture will explore establishing a final assembly and integration facility for the Javelin AUR in India.  

This initiative aims to support future production of the Javelin system and provide opportunities for Indian industry, thereby strengthening regional stability in the Indo-Pacific. 

The co-production effort will bridge manufacturing across continents. Key components will continue to be manufactured in the United States, ensuring domestic job sustainability: 

• Sub-assembly kits will be produced at Lockheed Martin's Troy, Alabama facility.
• Guidance electronics units will be manufactured at Raytheon's Tucson, Arizona facility.
• Final assembly and integration will occur at TASL facilities in India, expanding the country's high-tech manufacturing sector and defence workforce. 

Supply Chain Synergy Across the Globe 

Sukaran Singh, CEO and Managing Director of TASL, stated that local assembly of the Javelin AUR will enhance operational readiness and ensure timely access to proven, combat-ready capabilities for the Indian Armed Forces.

Strengthening Indo-Pacific Security 

The partnership is designed to bolster the global supply chain for the Javelin system amid increased worldwide demand. Leaders from the Javelin Joint Venture highlighted the strategic implications of a locally sourced supply in South Asia.  

Rich Liccion, Vice President of the JJV and Program Director for Lockheed Martin Javelin, described the Indian facility as a pivotal step in ensuring a resilient supply chain that reinforces a stronger security architecture across the Indo-Pacific region.
