Stock Market Holiday: Are Stock Markets Closed on October 2 for Dussehra and Gandhi Jayanti?

The Indian leading stock exchanges, the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), will remain closed on Thursday, October 2, 2025, due to Dussehra and Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti. As both festivals fall on the same day this year, all trading activities on these platforms will be suspended for the day.
According to the official stock market holiday calendar for 2025, October 2 has been marked as a trading holiday nationwide. No equity or derivative trading will take place on either exchange.
October 2025 Market Holidays
In total, Indian stock exchanges will be closed for 11 days in October 2025. This includes all four Saturdays and Sundays, along with 3 additional festival holidays:
- October 2 (Thursday): Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti / Dussehra
- October 21 (Tuesday): Diwali - Laxmi Pujan
- October 22 (Wednesday): Balipratipada
Special Muhurat Trading Session on Diwali
Although regular trading will be closed on October 21 for Diwali Laxmi Pujan, the exchanges will conduct the special Muhurat Trading session on the same day. This symbolic one-hour trading window, traditionally held in the evening, marks the beginning of the new financial year in the Hindu calendar. Specific timings for the Muhurat session will be shared by the exchanges through an official circular closer to the date.
