The Nifty Bank Index opened the September 15, 2026, session with a positive bias and registered an intraday high of 56,996.35 soon after opening. The index later touched an intraday low of 56,110.80.

The Nifty Bank opened above its previous close at the 56,884.25 level and registered an intraday high of 56,996.35.  

As the session progressed, continuous selling pressure emerged, dragging the index down by over 490 points from its previous close to touch an intraday low of 56,110.80.  

At 12:30 PM, the index was trading at 56,144.00, down by 462.55 points or 0.82% on September 15, 2026.

The market breadth of Nifty Bank remained exceptionally weak during the afternoon session on September 15, 2026, as buying interest was highly selective, leaving only 1 constituent in the green, while key heavyweights across the banking sector faced notable selling pressure and the remaining 13 stocks traded in the red. 

Top Gainers and Losers of Nifty Bank Index on September 15, 2026 

The market index recorded highly skewed movements across its major constituents during the session. Among the gainers, HDFC Bank (HDFCBANK) stood out as the sole survivor in positive territory, leading traction with a Last Traded Price (LTP) of 720.00, gaining 11.75 points (+1.66%). 

Conversely, severe selling pressure was observed among the top losers. AU Small Finance Bank (AUBANK) dropped the sharpest in percentage terms, falling by 21.40 points (-2.02%) to an LTP of 1,037.50.  

ICICI Bank (ICICIBANK) also faced notable corrections, shedding 25.40 points (-1.84%) to reach an LTP of 1,353.90.  

Bank of Baroda (BANKBARODA) lost value, decreasing by 3.92 points (-1.65%) to trade at an LTP of 234.21, while State Bank of India (SBIN) slid by 15.70 points (-1.58%) to cross an LTP of 980.00.

Conclusion 

On Tuesday, September 15, 2026, the Nifty Bank Index traded with notable losses of 0.82% by afternoon. Despite a lonely holding attempt by the top private banking heavyweight HDFC Bank, the overall banking market sentiment remained heavily weak, dragged down by AU Bank, ICICI Bank, and SBI.
