In October 2026, India's major automakers experienced substantial growth, driven by festive demand, new product offerings, and a rise in electric vehicle sales. While most sectors saw increased volumes, tractor sales faced a slight decline.

Four-Wheelers and SUVs Achieve Record Sales

Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) reported a 9% year-on-year (YoY) increase in total vehicle sales, reaching 1,31,109 units. Passenger vehicle sales rose by 2% to 73,338 units, with strong international demand boosting exports by 77% to 7,102 units.

Hyundai Motor India achieved its highest-ever monthly sales at 82,299 units, marking a 17.7% YoY growth. Domestic sales hit a record 62,799 units, up 16.7%, while exports grew by 21.1% to 19,500 units.

JSW MG Motor India saw a 19% YoY rise in wholesale dispatches to 8,013 units, driven by new models like the MG Hector Tomahawk EV.

Commercial Vehicles Maintain Momentum

Tata Motors' total commercial vehicle sales increased by 27% to 47,652 units. Domestic volumes rose by 13% to 39,784 units, with international business soaring 225% to 7,868 units compared to October 2025.

Ashok Leyland's total sales grew by 23% YoY to 21,888 units, led by a 39% rise in Medium & Heavy Commercial Vehicle (M&HCV) trucks, offsetting a 6% decline in M&HCV buses.

SML Mahindra recorded steady total sales of 1,065 units, with cargo vehicle volumes up 5% to 532 units.

Two-Wheeler Giants Record Double-Digit Growth

Hero MotoCorp's total dispatches rose by 16% YoY to 7,34,403 units, with scooter sales surging 60% to 1,04,603 units. Motorcycle sales increased by 10.3%, and the company's EV arm, Vida, dispatched 30,143 units, capturing a 13.6% market share in electric two-wheelers.

Bajaj Auto's total sales grew by 14% to 5.92 lakh units, with domestic sales up 12% to 3.51 lakh units and exports rising 18% YoY to 2.41 lakh units.

Tractors Face Mild Decline

Escorts Kubota reported a 10% YoY decline in total sales to 16,921 tractors. Domestic dispatches fell by 10.9% to 16,412 units, attributed to a high historical base, festive timeline shifts, monsoon disruptions, and elevated input costs. However, exports grew by 35.7% to 509 units.
