According to a proposal approved by the Delhi state Cabinet, the endowment of ASHA workers in Delhi is going to double, as per news reports. This amount will now be ₹6,000 from the previous ₹3,000.

Chairing the Cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said this decision acknowledged work done by ASHA workers in local communities.

6,725 ASHA Workers To Get Higher Incentive

Delhi currently has 6,725 ASHA workers. In general, one worker is linked with around 2,000 people, covering roughly 400 families.

With the revised amount, an ASHA worker will receive ₹3,000 more each month than under the existing arrangement. The source does not specify the total additional expenditure for the government.

Work Covers Families and Mothers

Much of an ASHA worker’s work happens through household visits. They provide health information, encourage vaccination and help families access services related to pregnancy and newborn care.

Gupta described them as an important link in Delhi’s primary healthcare system, particularly because of their direct contact with families.

Contribution During Covid Also Highlighted

The Chief Minister also pointed to the work done by ASHA workers during the Covid pandemic. Their contribution during that period was cited while explaining the importance of the revised incentive.

The government has linked the increase with improving their financial security and recognising their contribution to healthcare delivery.

Focus on Primary Healthcare

Gupta said the higher incentive would encourage ASHA workers to continue their work and strengthen primary healthcare services.

She also linked the measure with women's economic empowerment, making the incentive increase part of a broader focus on the role of women working at the community level.

Conclusion

The Cabinet’s decision doubles the monthly incentive for Delhi’s 6,725 ASHA workers to ₹6,000. The government has connected the increase with their household-level healthcare work, financial security and continued contribution to primary healthcare.
