Delhi Extends Early Property Tax Rebate Deadline to July 31; 13 Lakh Taxpayers Set to Benefit

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has announced an extension of the deadline for its 10% rebate on early property tax payments. Originally set to end on June 30, the deadline has now been moved to July 31, 2025.

The MCD has extended the date for availing a 10% rebate on advance property tax payments till July 31, 2025. The decision was taken in view of recurring technical issues that disrupted user access to the property tax portal. These glitches had made it difficult for thousands of property owners to complete their payments despite intending to do so within the original June deadline. As a result, the extension is expected to benefit nearly 13 lakh property taxpayers in the city.

Additional Rebates Continue for Certain Categories

In addition to the 10% advance tax rebate, other category-specific concessions such as rebates for senior citizens and women will also remain available until July 31. These discounts are applicable across eligible properties registered under the MCD tax net, and the civic body aims to maximise taxpayer participation by retaining these benefits for an extended period.

MCD Focusing on Better Tax Collection for FY 2025–26

The MCD has set an ambitious property tax collection target of ₹4,000 crore for the fiscal year 2025–26. With approximately 13 lakh registered taxpayers currently in the system, authorities are also implementing measures to increase compliance. Initiatives include holding awareness camps in association with RWAs (Resident Welfare Associations) and encouraging more property holders to regularise payments and come under the tax net.

Technology Roadblocks Prompted Deadline Adjustment

Technical problems reported on the MCD's property tax portal were addressed during a recent standing committee meeting, leading to the deadline extension. Many users were unable to log in or process their payments, sparking concern over lost rebate opportunities. The committee concluded that offering additional time would not only benefit taxpayers but also help improve revenue flows in the long term.
