US Trade Representative to Visit India for Bilateral Trade Talks on June 23-24, 2026

A delegation from the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) will visit India on June 23 and 24 for trade-related discussions, Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal said on Monday, June 15, 2026, as per news reports.
The meetings are to take place with Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal as negotiations between the 2 countries continue.
First Tranche of Deal on Agenda
Speaking at the monthly trade data briefing, Agrawal said the discussions are expected to focus on the first tranche of the proposed India-US trade agreement.
Apart from the interim arrangement, officials are also likely to review progress on the larger Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA), which remains under negotiation.
Follow-Up to Earlier Negotiations
The visit follows a round of talks held in New Delhi from June 1 to June 4, where officials from both sides discussed trade in goods, customs procedures, non-tariff measures and trade facilitation.
Economic security cooperation and other areas of mutual interest also formed part of those discussions.
India and the United States had announced a framework for an interim trade arrangement in February, while reaffirming their intention to negotiate a bilateral trade agreement.
Earlier, Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal had said the 2 countries were aiming to conclude the first phase of the deal by the middle of July.
Trade Issues Remain Under Discussion
The negotiations have continued alongside disagreements on tariffs and other trade matters.
India has rejected US claims of excess production capacity in sectors such as steel and textiles, with officials stating that the country's manufacturing levels should be viewed in the context of domestic demand and its development needs.
