UIDAI Set to Launch Revamped Aadhaar App: What Are Key Changes You Can Make?

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is preparing to launch an all-new Aadhaar mobile app by December 2025 (tentative), aiming to deliver a more seamless, secure, and user-friendly digital experience for millions of citizens.
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw already unveiled the beta version of the app back in April 2025. Since then, UIDAI has been actively gathering user feedback to fine-tune the app before its official release.
What to Expect from the New “e-Aadhaar App”
Supported by cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence, facial recognition for login, and enhanced QR code-based verification, the new app will provide solutions at ease.
Here's a quick look at the standout features:
- Face ID Login: Users can log in simply by scanning their face, and hence they do not need to add a password every time.
- Direct Updates: Update personal details like name, address, and date of birth right from the app; no need to visit a centre for these changes.
- Download Aadhaar Instantly: Easily access and download your Aadhaar card on demand.
- Check Update History: View a log of all past changes made to your Aadhaar details.
- Order PVC Aadhaar Cards: Request a physical copy of your Aadhaar, delivered straight to your doorstep.
- Built-in QR Code Scanner: Quickly verify Aadhaar details, reducing risks of identity fraud.
- Secure Sharing: Share your Aadhaar information digitally and safely, eliminating the need for photocopies during everyday verifications.
Can You Change Your Mobile Number via New APP?
While most features are going digital, UIDAI has confirmed that updating your Aadhaar-linked mobile number will continue to require a visit to an Aadhaar Seva Kendra. This is due to the sensitive nature of mobile numbers, which are often linked to banking and government services.
To update the mobile number, users must:
- Fill out a correction form.
- Complete biometric authentication at the Aadhar centre.
Conclusion
This initiative is a major step in India’s broader mission to enhance digital identity infrastructure. The new AI-powered version aims to overcome challenges such as bugs and limited functionality and offer a next-gen experience.
