Indian Farmers Get Wider Export Access As 9 FTAs Open Global Markets!

India has signed nine Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) in recent years with different countries and groups, as per a Business Standard news report.
Agricultural goods and processed food have been among the areas covered under these trade deals, giving Indian producers access to overseas markets.
The issue of agricultural exports came up during the 80th Independence Day address from the Red Fort. Farmers and agro-processors were asked to use these agreements to sell Indian farm products in international markets.
Farm Products for Global Markets
Traditional food, millets, spices, fruits, and flowers were among the products mentioned in the address. The focus was on taking such products from farms to export markets and building them as global brands.
Meeting international requirements will be necessary for Indian agricultural products to enter overseas markets. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said products that meet global parameters would have a better chance of reaching international buyers.
Chemical-Free Farming
Chemical-free farming was also included among the seven commitments outlined in the address. The government has pointed to growing demand for such products in overseas markets.
According to the report, demand for chemical-free agricultural products is expected to increase in the coming years. The focus on this form of farming comes alongside the push to increase the presence of Indian agricultural products in international markets.
Urea Prices At ₹300
The address also covered the pressure from higher international fertiliser prices. Urea prices have reached ₹3,000 per bag in the global market, while farmers in India are being provided the fertiliser at ₹300 per bag.
The government is also working to provide DAP at ₹1,350 per bag. It was noted that its price had reached ₹5,000 in the global market, leaving a substantial gap between international and domestic prices.
Fertiliser Subsidy
India’s fertiliser subsidy is projected by unofficial estimates to cross ₹2.4 trillion, against the FY27 Budget Estimate of around ₹1.7 trillion. Higher global fertiliser prices following the West Asia war have contributed to the expected increase.

Conclusion
The focus is on using FTAs to increase overseas sales of Indian agricultural and processed food products. At the same time, government support is keeping fertiliser prices lower for domestic farmers.
