India's Net FDI Inflows Reach $13.8 Billion in April-August FY27: RBI

India's Net Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) inflows rose to $13.8 billion in April-August 2026-27, from $9.6 billion in the same period last year, according to a Business Standard news report citing data released by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
The RBI said the increase was supported by higher gross FDI inflows and a slowdown in investment by Indian companies abroad. Net FDI is calculated after adjusting gross inflows for repatriation, disinvestment and outward investment by Indian companies.
Gross FDI Inflows Rise to $54.9 Billion
Gross FDI inflows reached $54.9 billion in the first five months of FY27, compared with $45.6 billion in April-August of the previous financial year. The total includes equity capital, reinvested earnings, and other capital.
The RBI reported an increase in both gross inward FDI and net FDI flows on a year-on-year and sequential basis during the period. Lower outward investment, along with continued gross inflows, contributed to the rise in net FDI.
August Inflows Stand at $3.3 Billion
Net FDI inflows stood at $3.3 billion in August 2026, against a net outflow of $103 million in August 2025. The figure was lower than the $4.1 billion recorded in July 2026.
Gross inflows in August amounted to $11.5 billion. Foreign investors repatriated or disinvested $3.8 billion, while Indian companies invested $3.4 billion in businesses abroad.
Five Countries Account for 81% of Inflows
Financial services, communication services, computer services and manufacturing accounted for around 73% of total FDI equity inflows during April-August 2026.
Singapore, Japan, Mauritius, the United Arab Emirates and the United States were the main sources of FDI during the five-month period, together accounting for around 81% of total inflows, according to the RBI.
