Apple iPhone Supplier Foxconn’s Bangalore Unit Hires 30,000 Workers in Just 9 Months

According to The Economic Times report, Foxconn has significantly expanded its workforce at its iPhone assembly plant near Bengaluru, adding 30,000 employees in just 9 months. This rapid hiring is unprecedented in India's manufacturing sector. 

Rapid Workforce Expansion at Devanahalli Plant 

The Devanahalli unit of Foxconn has seen a swift increase in its workforce, with 30,000 new hires, primarily women aged 19-24.  

This makes it one of the largest single-location employers of women in India. The majority of these workers are entering formal employment for the first time, and many have migrated from neighbouring states to Karnataka. 

Scaling Up iPhone Production and Exports 

Trial production at the Bengaluru facility began around April-May this year with the iPhone 16. The plant has since progressed to assembling the iPhone 17 Pro Max. Over 80% of the phones produced are exported, highlighting India's growing role in Apple's global supply chain. 

Foxconn anticipates employing up to 50,000 people once the plant reaches full capacity. Currently, several dormitories are operational to accommodate the female workforce, with more under construction.

Devanahalli Complex: A Self-Contained Township 

The Devanahalli complex is designed to function like a mini township, offering residential facilities, healthcare services, schools, and recreational spaces. Workers benefit from free accommodation and subsidised meals, with an average monthly salary of ₹18,000, considered competitive for blue-collar roles. 

India's Largest iPhone Manufacturing Facility 

With an investment of nearly ₹20,000 crore, the Bengaluru plant is set to become India's largest iPhone manufacturing facility. The production floor spans 2,50,000 square feet, and the plant is expected to surpass Foxconn's older facility in Tamil Nadu in terms of capacity and employment.
