Amazon India to Spend ₹2,800 Crore on Worker Welfare, Quick Commerce and Logistics Network

Amazon India has announced an investment of over ₹2,800 crore (approximately $300 million) towards worker-related programmes, as per news reports.  

The allocation focuses on safety, healthcare access and income support for delivery partners, warehouse staff, and transport workers.  

The company indicated that the measures are expected to reach tens of thousands of workers and extend to more than 200,000 individuals in nearby communities. The spending is part of a commitment to invest over $35 billion in India by 2030. 

Facilities and Health Support Expanded 

As part of the rollout, Amazon plans to expand Project Ashray, which provides rest stops equipped with basic facilities such as drinking water, sanitation, charging points, and first-aid support.  

Around 100 such locations are currently operational, serving over 150,000 delivery associates each month. Healthcare initiatives include medical camps offering routine screenings such as eye tests, dental checks, and general consultations.  

The Sushruta programme for truck drivers is being extended. Additional efforts include support related to mental health and work-related physical strain. 

Financial Security Initiatives 

Through the Samriddhi programme, workers are being assisted with enrolment in public welfare schemes, including Ayushman Bharat and Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana. Registration for pension and labour identification systems is also being facilitated. 

The company is also revising group medical and accident insurance policies for delivery associates. These are intended to provide coverage in case of illness or injury. Education support continues under the Pratidhi scholarship scheme, which funded 5,000 students in 2025. 

Logistics Network Expansion 

Alongside workforce-related spending, Amazon is continuing to invest in logistics infrastructure. Plans include additional fulfilment centres, sortation hubs, and delivery stations, particularly in smaller cities. 

Its quick delivery service, Amazon Now, launched in 2025, operates through more than 300 micro-fulfilment centres.  

The company plans to expand this network further. In 2025, a separate ₹2,000 crore investment added 17 fulfilment centres, 6 sortation hubs and 75 delivery stations.
